Lee Quinones is a single american artist born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He is also known as one of the legends that started off with New York City subway graffiti in 1974. In November 1976, Lee painted 10 subway cars and set a benchmark for the scale of graffiti work.
Lee's painting are stored at Whitney Museum of Art, the Museum of the City New York, the Groninger Museum (Groningen, Netherlands) and the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen (Rotterdam, Netherlands as a permanent collection.
The reason I choose Lee Quinones is because of I was so amazed with his paintings and also when I did some research about him I found out that he creates his arts with no reference because he says that " A true art movement never goes by the script, instead it flips the script, faithfully reinventing itself" which actually captured my attention.
Graffiti

- Existed for decades.....
- It is actually lettering or images painted and marked in any manner on a public property....
- Later, groups uses it as a way to mark their territory...
- Graffiti is a way of expressing underlying social and political messages....
- There were also controversies about Graffiti representing the gangster community but however the strong and passionate artists never fail to achieve compliments because of their passionate towards Graffiti....
Shape is defined as an area that stands out with differences of value, color, or texture.....
Colors are used to draw attention on a particular image and for that artist use colors to highlight their messages in their painting. There are 3 properties, Chroma, Intensity and Value......Principle of Design
1. Unity is a strong element in Lee's painting because he expresses his feelings with his paintings. The ideas in his artwork reinforces the principal of unity.
2. Contrast shows the difference between shapes and can be used as a background to bring objects out and forward in a design
